About Kawsu Barry, MD

Kawsu Barry, MD joined The Iowa Clinic Orthopaedics department because it offered him the opportunity to be a part of a first-class organization to continue his practice. Dr. Barry chose Orthopaedic Joint Surgery because of how well patients do after surgery, both immediately and over the long-term – which he finds tremendously fulfilling. He enjoys being able to use his hands to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

Dr. Barry completed a year of subspecialty training in adult reconstruction and joint replacement surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School, where he became well-versed in primary, complex and revision (redo) hip and knee replacement surgery, anterior hip surgery, partial knee replacements, the use of robotic, navigated, and custom joint replacement, and outpatient joint replacement surgery.

Having grown up in The Gambia, a small West African country, Dr. Barry completed an orthopaedic elective there as part of his residency training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and plans to undertake annual mission trips to contribute to the practice of orthopaedics there. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and four children and practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If he were not a provider, he might have been a farmer.
