Experiencing testicular pain?
If you’re experiencing any level of testicular pain, it may be impacting your daily life and preventing you from doing the things you love. Physical therapy is often overseen as a solution for testicular pain but it is a great non-invasive option that can help alleviate pain. Prior to starting PT, it is important that you see your primary care provider to make sure and rule out any infections, tumors or torsions.
How can physical therapy help testicular pain?
If physical therapy is the best course of action for your testicular pain, your physical therapist will start your first session with a physical exam as well as reviewing your medical history. This allows them to help determine an underlying cause of the pain as well as put together a treatment plan that best fits your needs. Once they determine what is needed to help diminish your pain, you may be provided a treatment plan that includes:
- Therapeutic exercises: these exercises will help you strengthen any deficiencies that could be causing the testicular pain. Additionally, therapeutic exercises are implemented to help improve mobility and function of the pelvic area.
- Manual therapy: this method applies hands on pressure to stimulate the tissue and muscles in the affected area. Manual therapy can help with increased mobility and decreased tension.
- Stretching: stretching exercises will typically be assigned as something to consistently do at home to help alleviate any pain. These provided stretches will loosen tight muscles which enables increased flexibility and decreased discomfort.
How to get the most out of physical therapy for testicular pain:
The number one way to highly benefit from physical therapy for your testicular pain is to consistently do your stretches and exercises at home (as instructed). By staying consistent and patient, these methods of therapy will start to alleviate pain you’re experiencing and help you prevent it from happening again. It is also important to always stay in contact with your physical therapist regarding any new or changing symptoms.
