What is a medication and supplement review?
Medication and supplement review is a thorough evaluation of an individual's current medications and supplements to ensure they are safe, effective, and appropriate for their health conditions and lifestyle. This review is a critical component of The Iowa Clinic's comprehensive Executive Health program, which aims to optimize health and wellness for busy executives through personalized medical care.
Who conducts the medication and supplement review?
The medication and supplements review is performed by a clinical pharmacist who is also a Drake University College of Pharmacy faculty member.
What happens during a medication and supplement review?
The pharmacist will assess all the executive’s medications, including:
- Prescriptions
- Over-the-counter medications
- Herbal therapies
- Dietary supplements
The pharmacist will review the executive’s patient-specific notes and results in the electronic health record to develop individualized recommendations and counseling points. The executive will receive an updated, typed medication list following the medication and supplement review.
