Hearing Testing Services
The Iowa Clinic audiologists are trained in the evaluation of hearing loss using specialized equipment to obtain accurate information about your hearing. There are several diagnostic evaluations available, including:
- Comprehensive Audiology Evaluation — During this procedure, your provider will assess your overall health and function of the auditory system, including the internal and external ear. This information is important in determining if medical or surgical intervention is needed, or if hearing aids may help pure tone and speech stimuli.
- Tympanometry — This test assesses the middle ear, which connects the eardrum to the middle ear. Middle ear blockages or malfunctions often can be treated medically or surgically.
- Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) – OAE’s are sounds given off by the inner ear when responding to a sound. During a test, a vibration produces a very quiet sound that echoes back into the middle ear, which is then measured.
Hearing testing is a critical step in determining hearing loss, which can be caused by a variety of factors. With early detection and treatment, you may prevent further hearing loss and improve your overall quality of life.
