Why is NovaSure endometrial ablation performed?

What to expect before, during, and after NovaSure endometrial ablation

Before the procedure

During your pre-procedure appointment, your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of NovaSure endometrial ablation with you and answer any questions you have. They will also perform a physical exam and may order some tests, such as a blood test or ultrasound.

During the procedure

NovaSure endometrial ablation is performed in our office. You will be given a local anesthetic to numb the cervix. The doctor will then insert a thin tube through the cervix into the uterus. The tube contains a balloon that is inflated with sterile saline. The doctor will then apply radiofrequency energy to the balloon. The heat from the balloon destroys the lining of the uterus.

After the procedure

After the procedure, you may experience some mild cramping and bleeding. You may also feel a little dizzy or lightheaded. It is important to rest for the rest of the day after the procedure. You should also avoid sexual intercourse and douching for at least 24 hours after the procedure.

Most women can return to their normal activities within a few days of having NovaSure endometrial ablation. However, it is important to avoid strenuous activity for at least 2 weeks after the procedure.

If you have any questions or concerns about NovaSure endometrial ablation, please talk to your doctor.
