Mid-Urethral Sling

What is a mid-urethral sling?

A mid-urethral sling procedure is designed to help women with stress incontinence, which is the loss of control of bladder function or leakage under physical pressure.

This procedure is a minimally invasive technique that places a narrow ribbon of synthetic mesh under the urethra. This permanent mesh does not cause the high rates of complications that have been in the news related mesh used for other types of pelvic surgeries.

A mid-urethral sling can be completed by itself or as part of a larger surgery depending on each patient’s healthcare needs. There are different types of mid-urethral slings. The urogynecologist will recommend the best type of sling for you.
