Urethral Sling

What is a urethral sling?

A urethral sling is a device that is surgically implanted to stabilize the pelvic tissues and organs of women. The sling supports the urethra, which is the tube that carries urine from the bladder to outside the body. The surgery that implants this device can help treat urinary incontinence and uterine prolapse.

There are various types of slings that are placed at different positions along the urethra to provide support, for example a mid-urethral sling. The primary goal is to prevent urine leakage by supporting the urethra and bladder neck.

The choice of sling and surgical approach depends on various factors such as the individual patient's condition and anatomy.

How long is recovery from a urethral sling procedure?

Recovery from a urethral sling procedure is fairly quick, usually within six weeks of surgery. Complications from this procedure are also minimal.
