Schedule Your Child's School Physical
It’s always important to check in on the health and development of your child. And there’s no better time for a check-up than during summer break.
Before your summer schedule gets too busy, carve out time on the calendar for back-to-school physicals with the family physicians and pediatricians at The Iowa Clinic. In less than 30 minutes, you can have one more thing checked off your to-do list.
FAQs on School Physicals
Are physical exams for kids required?
Schools and childcare centers in and around Des Moines require annual physicals to help protect all children. An annual physical ensures your child is in good health and up to date on their vaccinations. Any issues or conditions that arise out of the physical can be identified and treated or managed before the start of the new school year.
How can I prepare for my child’s annual check-up?
Little to no prep is needed. Simply spend a few minutes thinking about your child’s health and development over the past year. If there are changes to insurance, family medical history or your child’s health history, bring along updated cards, documents or even mental notes.
If you’re visiting The Iowa Clinic for the first time, contact your previous clinic to transfer medical and immunization records.
Does my child have to be a patient of The Iowa Clinic?
No, you can schedule a school physical with the provider of your choice — even if your child has never been to The Iowa Clinic before. Once you choose a family doctor or pediatrician for the physical, you can establish a relationship with that provider for continued care for your kid.
