Robotic Surgery

What is robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery refers to the use of robotic-assisted surgical systems to perform complex procedures. Robotic surgery combines the precision and dexterity of robotic technology with the skills of the surgeon to enhance surgical outcomes and patient care.

Robotic Surgical System

The most commonly used robotic surgical system is the da Vinci Surgical System. It consists of robotic arms controlled by the surgeon, a high-definition 3D visualization system, and specialized instruments. The surgeon sits at a console and manipulates the instruments with hand and finger movements, which are translated into precise movements by the robotic arms.

Benefits of Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery offers several advantages over traditional open surgery or laparoscopic surgery. These benefits include improved visualization with 3D imaging, enhanced precision and control of surgical instruments, reduced blood loss, smaller incisions, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, and potentially reduced complications.

At The Iowa Clinic we offer robotic procedures in various departments including general surgery, colorectal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery and surgical oncology. Discuss with your doctor if you may be eligible for a robotics procedure. For any additional questions about robotic surgery, please call our department at 515.875.9795.
